Why this is awkward in the first place
iMessage handles voice messages beautifully — between two iPhones. Message an Android phone and the conversation drops to SMS or MMS, where a voice message either won't send, gets heavily compressed, or arrives as a file the other person has to figure out how to open.
The usual advice is “you both install WhatsApp.” That works if the other person is willing. Often they aren't — a parent, a colleague, a client, someone you'll message twice and never again.
What a link does instead
Recording here converts your audio to a single format that every current browser plays, then gives you a short link. Send it however you already talk to them — SMS, email, a work chat — and it opens and plays. Android to iPhone, iPhone to Android, phone to laptop: it makes no difference, because the browser does the work rather than a messaging app.
Neither side installs anything. The person receiving it doesn't need an account, and doesn't need to know what this site is.
How to send one
- Record your message above.
- Play it back and re-record if you want.
- Tap Upload & get link, then copy the link.
- Text or email it as you normally would.
Most messaging apps show the link as a playable preview card rather than a bare URL, so it's obvious it's a voice message before they tap.
Already recorded it on your phone?
This records new audio rather than accepting an existing file. If you already have a voice memo saved and it's short, re-recording it here is usually quicker than the alternatives. For a long recording you can't redo, upload it to Google Drive or Dropbox and share that link instead.
When to just use a messaging app
If you and the other person are both already on WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram or Messenger, use those. They keep the message in the conversation thread where it belongs. This is for the times when there's no shared app to fall back on.
Good to know
- Recordings can be up to 2 minutes.
- Links expire automatically after 30 days.
- Links are unlisted, not private — anyone you send it to can listen, and can pass it on.
- You can delete a recording yourself at any time from the player page.
- This records new audio in your browser. It doesn't accept uploads of existing files.
