Why you'd want to skip the call
Sometimes the message matters but the interruption doesn't help. A ringing phone demands attention right now, and often at the worst possible moment — mid-meeting, driving, with a sleeping baby in the next room.
There are also the times a call is the wrong shape entirely:
- It's late, or early, or a different time zone
- You want them to have the information, not a conversation
- You'd rather say it once, properly, than be interrupted
- They screen unknown numbers — most people now do
- It's something they may want to replay or think about
Why not just use carrier voicemail
Ringless voicemail services exist, but they're built for businesses sending to thousands of numbers, usually cost money, and are regulated in ways that make them awkward for personal use. Some carriers block them outright.
For one message to one person, a link is simpler. You record, you send it however you already contact them, and they tap it. No phone number needed, and nothing installed on either end.
How to send one
- Record your message above.
- Listen back — this is a message they may keep, so it's worth a second take.
- Tap Upload & get link and copy the link.
- Send it by text, email, or any chat app you already use with them.
Add a short line of context alongside it — “left you a quick voice note rather than calling” — so a bare link doesn't read as spam.
What makes a good one
- Say who you are first. They may not recognise your voice out of context.
- Say why you're not calling. A single sentence stops it feeling like avoidance.
- Get to the point early. If they only hear the first twenty seconds, make those the ones that matter.
- Be clear about what happens next. Do you need a reply, or is this just information?
Worth knowing before you send
The link is unlisted, not private — anyone who receives it can listen and can forward it. It also expires after 30 days. For a message someone needs to keep permanently, tell them to download it from the player page.
